Sophisticated Estate Planning Techniques--2006

This annual advanced course of study, comprising more than 13 hours of instruction, is designed for experienced estate planning practitioners. Among many timely topics, this year's program features planning techniques that are regarded by some as cutting edge, and by others as over the edge, with presentations by Martin Hall and Turney Berry on nontraditional charitable techniques; by Steve Leimberg on "stranger owned" life insurance and other recently evolved life insurance products; and by Professor Mitchell Gans, with a friendly dissenting caution from Virginia Coleman, on making unified credits portable through the joint revocable trust. This year's faculty also covers two recent developments in the law that interact with estate planning and that practitioners in this area cannot afford to ignore: Leslie Crane Slavin on Code Section 409A, which overhauls the tax rules applicable to deferred compensation; and Al Golden on the Bankruptcy Act of 2005.
