MCLE Requirements 25 hours per 3-year compliance period including 4 hours of ethics; 1 hour prevention, detection, and treatment of substance abuse/mental illness that Impairs Professional Competence; 1 hour elimination of bias in the legal profession.

Compliance Deadline: February 1.

Attorneys are assigned to one of three compliance groups on a staggered cycle, so that one group ends their three-year compliance period each calendar year. (Group 3 in 2014, Group 2 in 2012, Group 1 in 2013, etc.) For information on compliance group assignments and compliance cycles, please see the CA Bar website.

In-House Programs Approved Provider, Participatory
Hour Calculations Credit hours are calculated based on the actual instruction time. Hours are rounded up or down to the nearest quarter-hour and expressed in decimals. California requires that providers give 60 minutes for each hour of instruction.
Formula: Actual time spent in legal education activity ÷ 60 = credit hours
California members do NOT receive credit for break periods, lunch or any non-legal education functions ( such as networking, company business meetings, tours, demonstrations, etc.).
